When you hire an agency for GA4 work, you'll often hear the term "certified Google Analytics partner" mentioned. But what does that actually mean?
The answer is important because many people confuse it with something else entirely. We have worked with 250+ major brands across India, UAE, the USA, Thailand, and the UK. From that work, we know this confusion costs brands a lot of time and money.
This guide explains what the term really means, how to check a partner before you hire them, and answers your key questions about which type you need.
A certified Google Analytics partner is a company with Google Marketing Platform (GMP) Certified Company status. This is quite different from an individual with a Skillshop GA4 credential.
Google gives Certified Company status to agencies that meet standards in three areas: they can set up GA4 properly, clients are happy with their work, and they know GMP tools well. Google checks this status every year, and it can stop if the company no longer meets standards.
The mix-up happens because people confuse two different things. Individual GA4 certification is free, and any analyst can earn it through Skillshop. It shows one person knows GA4 basics. Company-level GMP Certified Partner status is a Google award to an agency. It shows the whole company meets standards. It proves they have certified staff. It proves they have good results.
When you hire an agency, you pay for the company status. You are not just paying for one person's exam pass.
Google has two types of partners, and knowing which you need really matters before you contact anyone.
Certified Companies do:
If you need GA4 setup and configuration, work with a Certified Company.
Sales Partners do all that, plus:
Do you need to buy GA 360? Work with a Sales Partner. Need only GA4? A Certified Company is fine.
This changes how you pay them. A Certified Company charges for setup and support. A Sales Partner adds a license fee on top. Know which you need before you call.
The GMP program covers many tools: Analytics, DV360, SA360, CM360, Tag Manager, Looker Studio, and Attribution. One badge does not mean they're good at all tools. Always ask what they specialize in.
Certified partners typically do: design your event tracking, set up Tag Manager for client and server work, set up BigQuery for raw data, set up conversion tracking, set up cross-site tracking, connect to your CRM or CDP, build custom dashboards, and train your team.
A good partner trains your team well so you're not stuck and can grow the setup over time as your business changes.
When choosing a certified partner for other tools, look for the same level of effort and training. Learning about DV360 features and benefits helps you check multi-tool partners before you choose.
This step tells the smart buyers from hopeful ones. Many buyers skip it and wish they hadn't.
Step 1: Use Google's Partner Gallery. Go to Google's Partner Gallery and filter by tool (Analytics), place (India if you're there), and type (Certified Company or Sales Partner). The live list is the only real source. If an agency isn't there, they lost status or never had it.
Step 2: Check they're in the current list. Google checks status every single year. An agency might have had it two years ago and lost it. The Partner Gallery shows only current status. If they're not listed, ask why. A real partner has current proof to share.
Step 3: Ask for case studies and check team certs. Ask for three case studies from companies like yours where they did GA4 work. Ask if the team on your job has current Skillshop GA4 certs. These can be checked through Google's Skillshop if people agree to show them.
Partners who say no to any of these three steps are showing red flags.
Personal GA4 certs are free and any analyst can earn one through Skillshop. It shows one person knows GA4 basics. A certified partner company is a Google award to an agency. It shows the company meets standards, has staff certs, and gets good results.
No. Certified Companies focus on setup and advice work. Only Sales Partners can resell GA 360. If you want GA4 setup only, a Certified Company works. If you want to buy GA 360, you need a Sales Partner.
Go to Google's Partner Gallery and filter by Analytics, your place, and type. Google checks yearly. If an agency is in the current list, they're real. If not, it lapsed. Always check before you sign.
Yes. GMP covers many tools and a partner might have certs in several. But Analytics certs don't mean they're good at DV360. Always ask for proof they know the tools you need. Look at [DV360 features and benefits](https://dwao.in/what-is-dv360-features-and-benefits/) when checking multi-tool partners.
Cost varies based on scope and timeline. There is no set Google price. It depends on scope, time, and place. Large GA4 setups take weeks to months. Look at scope, what you get, and case studies instead of comparing hourly pay.
Premier Partner is a separate award for the top three percent of agencies based on spend and work. Premier Partners usually have GMP certs. They get a Google contact and see new tools first. But GMP certs alone don't equal Premier status.
Ask if they're in the current Partner Gallery. Ask for case studies from your field. Ask if your team has current Skillshop certs. Ask how they design tracking. Ask if they set up server Tag Manager. Ask if they've done your data size. Ask how they teach your team. Ask what help you get after the project starts. Clear answers mean better results.
Certification is a strong sign that Google checked the company. But it's not perfect. A certified partner with no work in your field might give a basic setup, not what you need.
Use certification as step one, then check case studies and team skills. Look at their understanding of your business needs. When comparing partners, verify all are in the current Partner Gallery. Ask each how they'd handle your needs. Look at scope and team, not just cheap price. Partners who ask good questions early give better results.
Check if they've worked with companies like you so they know your market. A partner who gets your business is worth more than the cheapest choice.
